“Education is a liberating force, and in our age it is also a democratizing force, cutting across the barriers of caste and class, smoothing out inequalities imposed by birth and other circumstances.” -Indira Gandhi

The congregation of the Sisters of St.Joseph of Tarbes was founded in the year 1843, in France, by six young peasant girls, who had a special divine experience of God, which urged them to live together with a life of contemplation, and thus living in communion, they became sensitive to the needs of the people around; and responded enthusiastically to the divine call, and continued to educate the children and cared for the sick, the poor and the needy.

Through the ages, the sisters preserving their mission of service, continued their heroic, courageous and optimistic call to serve the marginalized and neglected groups, under the patronage of St. Joseph.

Drawing the examples of Jesus Christ and following the objectives and goals of the constitution of India, the educational institutions of the sisters of St Joseph of Tarbes, coheres the path of affinity and solidarity.

Keeping the motto, ‘May we all be one’, the congregation strives to mould and build a better society, by providing favourable and spiritual education to all the individuals. In other words, contemplating on how ‘education is what remains after everything is forgotten’, the community imparts the pedagogy of learning and attempts to shape every individual in a mature and better person.

During this global pandemic time, considering the many challenges and changes the future holds in store, education appears to be an indispensable tool to attain the ideals of peace, freedom and social justice. Education, of course, is not a miracle, or a magic or a key to the problems of the world, but it is nevertheless one of the principle means to foster a deeper and more harmonious form of human development and, thereby reduces poverty, exclusion, ignorance, oppression and war.

Global pandemic became an era of learning. The novel virus left unprecedented challenges and questions and repressed many futures to float. We need to seize this time of trail as a time of choice…a time to choose what matters and what passes away, a time to separate what is necessary from what is not. It is a time to get our lives back on track.

At the end let us remember that education is a priceless gift. You and me are fortunate to be here in this abode of light and knowledge. So let us continue to carry on our responsibilities towards our society and nation.

God bless us all.
