World Ozone Day – 16/9/2019

This year the International day for the preservation of the ozone layer had the theme ‘caring for all life under the sun’. We began the programme with a prayer service followed by speech on the significance of the day which highlighted the importance of the ozone layer. There was a PPT presentation on the effects of depletion of the ozone. Charts were displayed which gave information of the present situation of the ozone layer. Our Principal Dr. Sr. Sagayamary B gave a speech to make students understand what ozone depletion is and how each individual is responsible for protecting our ozone. Sister also explained that in the earths lower atmosphere, near ground level, ozone is depleted when pollutants emitted by cars, power plants, industrial boilers, refineries, chemical plants and other sources react chemically in the presence of sunlight. Ozone at ground level is a harmful pollutant. It was a useful programme which brought awareness in the mind of every individual as to how we can play a significant role in protecting it.
